Irrigation Status
The District is seeing high water demand for June, with forecasted water supplies for the 2026 season continuing to be limited. All District patrons should be conscientious with their water use, limit water application to only the amount needed, and eliminate water waste. Different areas within FID are supplied by different water sources and will face different potential impacts this season. A map of delimiting the Upper, Middle, and Lower sections of the District can be found here: https://www.fidhr.org/service-area
Upper/Middle: It is critical for the District to delay/limit reservoir water use until at least late June to ensure water supply through the end of the season. Patrons will be required to limit their watering to 75% of their water right (4.2 gallons per minute per water right acre), likely starting in early June. Demand and water supply will determine if further water restrictions will be required later in the summer. If additional water restrictions are required, junior water users will be required to go on rotation, followed by all users within the Upper and Middle sections going on rotation (3.5 days on/off). Everyone limiting water demand, and maintaining a lower but more consistent usage rate, will help water supplies stretch through the season.
- Upper: Patrons will be required to limit watering to 75% of their water right starting June 12th
- Middle: Patrons will likely be required to limit watering to 75% of their water right beginning in mid/late June
Lower: FID is seeing very high water demand in the Lower section. Patrons are asked to practice good water management and water conservation. Low river flows are likely to bring more sediment into the delivery system, so patrons should anticipate cleaning their filter(s) more frequently.
Everyone: Water conservation measures can include:
- Checking your system frequently for leaks and breaks, and promptly repairing them.
- Ensuring all drains are fully closed.
- Manually scrubbing filters instead of flushing.
- Not watering non-irrigable surfaces (such as pavement, buildings, or cars).
- Only applying the amount of water needed to grow your crop/plants.
- Utilizing microsprinklers, drip emitters, and other low-flow application methods to apply water more directly to the target plant(s), and slow application rates for better absorption.
- Monitoring soil moisture and only watering when needed.
- Applying compost or other barriers around plants to help retain soil moisture.
- Allowing lawns to go dormant.
- Calling Farmers Irrigation District if you see a leak or break in FID's system.
